How much money does a news cameraman make?
March 4th, 2010 | by Rarzi |I’m a senior in college, film/video major, thinking of applying at local news stations for a job as a camera man/editor. However, they ask you to include your salary requests, and I have no idea what a reasonable salary would be. Any camera men out there? What’s a good salary for a starting out videographer?

A really good place to look for answers to your question is the US Dept. of Labor. The US Dept. of Labor has a great web site for researching occupations of all sorts. You might want to check this out to do get the best answers for your question and to do your research: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ho

While I’m not a professional camera operator, but I may have a
suggestion or two.
Try the URL http://www.bls.gov
Try this URL first, it takes you to the government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, and in it, go to the Occupational Outlook Handbook page, and then click on the occupation prompt, and
then earnings, it will tell you what you are looking for.
There are web sites out there that publishes yearly salaries
for almost every conceivable occupation known to exist in the
USA.
Here is the what I found out: these figures compiled in yearly
earnings: median salary for motion picture and video industries,
$37,610.00 to $44,710.00, high end: $76,100.00(senior/experienced operator/management)
For radio and TV broadcasting median salary is $29,560.00
many dollars lower, I wonder why?
I hope this data helps you, good luck in your chosen occupation.
Thats my message, good luck.
