how much money (tips) does the average waitress make a year? verses bartender?
March 4th, 2010 | by Rarzi |i have been bartending for several years in a nice upscale place. but im looking to work at a local resteraunt where the gratuity will not be included. so not having dealt with cash tips im unsure of what ill make……..
also i am very good at what i do, but was wondering if waitresses make more money then bartenders do? help

It really depends on the place, but waitress have to work a LOT harder than bartenders do. Waitresses will always make pretty good money if the place they work at is doing any business but the amount of alchohol served varies a lot. If the alchohol is less than 30% of sales, then you’re probably better off waitressing.
I’ve been in the restaurant business for a long time and I’ve seen the difference between the two jobs. Waitresses have to carry tray with 15-20 pounds of food with the weight of the plates fighting through the crowd and keep track of much more than a bartender does, AND they have to deal with the cooks all night.
The female bartenders I know typically make between $15-$20/hour and waitresses can do the same on a busy night, but I think $13-$15/hour is more typical.
But who says you can’t do both? If you can bartend and wait you will be more valuable than someone who just does one job. Besides, then you can start looking at being a FOH manager….
